Practicing the Presence of God

In today’s first reading St. Paul writes that Christ dwells in our hearts. Three centuries ago, Brother Lawrence (a Carmelite lay brother) wrote about how living and acting in the presence of God makes our whole lives a prayer. He states, “Maintain His presence within you by communion of your heart with His.”

My morning “To Do” list mostly consists of everyday chores. Can this ordinary life possibly be a means of loving our Lord? It’s not what we do, but the amount of love we put in the doing. So whether on my knees scrubbing the floor, or on my knees in prayer, my life has purpose if I’m working in the presence of God. What an awesome thought!

Prayer: Spirit of God, let me be aware of Your indwelling presence.
