The just one shall live on your holy mountain, O Lord. — Psalm 15:1
Mass Readings: Proverbs 3:27-34 / Luke 8:16-18
In college, my friend Dennis studied hard, courted one of the prettiest coeds on campus, and joined the rest of his dormitory mates for late-night bull sessions and tomfoolery. He was able to be one of the guys while remaining dedicated to higher aims. He also attended Mass each Sunday. What I liked best about Dennis was he would let his guard down at a time of life when few of us did. He’d come to my carrel at the library and talk about something troubling in the news or at school — from a faith perspective. It was refreshing to have a friend who didn’t hide his faith.
In today’s Gospel Jesus tells us not to hide our light under a bushel. Share our gifts and our faith. Be who we are meant to be: God’s children.
Prayer: Lord, let me not be afraid to express my faith and live it openly.
