Blessed the people the Lord has chosen to be his own. — Psalm 33:12
Mass Readings:1 Corinthians 3:1-9 / Luke 4:38-44
Our kids get sick. They seem to bring colds home from school almost as regularly as homework. Often it’s the sniffles but sometimes it’s an ear or sinus infection or even the flu or bronchitis. Most times my wife and I aren’t too worried. A quick visit to the doctor yields a diagnosis and a prescription if needed. The ailment vanishes in a few days and they return to their normal high-energy selves.
In today’s Gospel Jesus cures Simon’s mother-in-law, ravaged with a fever. How terrifying it must have been in those days when healthcare was rudimentary and usually unavailable. Jesus was not just a teacher but a healer as well. He gave people what they craved. We can use modern medicine but Jesus is there to meet all our needs.
Prayer: Lord, let me always turn to You in times of trouble.
