The Lord has chosen Zion for his dwelling. — Psalm 132:13
Mass Readings: 2 Kings 11:1-4,9-18,20 / Matthew 6:19-23
I’m an “eye watcher.” A person’s eyes tell me what he’s thinking or what she’s feeling long before that person’s voice or actions offer any clue. A welcoming look makes me feel comfortable on entering a home. Darting, downcast eyes cause me to clutch my purse tighter on a bus. The eyes of children give me the greatest joy as they open wide in surprise, gaze into my face with innocent love, or close in peaceful sleep.
Jesus says, “If your eye is sound, your whole body will be filled with light.” Do we focus our eyes, our goals and dreams, on holy sights? Do we turn our faces toward heaven? Most of all, do others see the light of Christ shining in our eyes, a reflection of our love for brothers and sisters still in darkness?
Prayer: Light of Christ, let Your love shine on the world through my eyes.
