My heart exults in the Lord, my Savior. — 1 Samuel 2:(see 1)

A Mother’s Love

When one of my six adult children says , “Mom, stop treating me like a child,” I always answer, “Then stop acting like one.” We exchange these words because my son or daughter wants to wiggle loose from my watchful eyes. Is that possible? I don’t think so. I lovingly carried them beneath my heart nine months, and after years of reading bedtime stories and kissing bruised knees, the emotional and spiritual bonds remain. Once my child, always my child.

Today we venerate the Immaculate Heart of Mary, mother of all mothers. She illuminates the maternal path for us to follow. Though her Son was an adult, she never stopped praying for Him, never stopped loving Him. Always the “Mother,” she followed Him to the cross, to the grave, and beyond.

Prayer: Mother Mary, help me to follow the path of love you chose.
