The Lord will remember his covenant forever. — Psalm 111:5

Mass Readings: 1 Peter 1:3-9 / Mark 10:17-27

What Can I Do?

I’m a lifelong Catholic. I attended Catholic schools from first grade through college. I’ve worked to stay current on my faith, to pray, and to be involved in my parish in a variety of capacities and ministries, including lectoring, choir and a couple of committees. It’s the sort of thing that can lead me to pat myself on the back and say: “Good job.”

Then I see again Jesus’ words to the rich young man: “You are lacking in one thing. Go, sell what you have, and give to (the) poor and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me” (Mk 10:21). While I don’t turn and walk away, I know that, like that young man I could do more. But how often do I, like him, even ask “How?”

Prayer: Lord, help me to proclaim in all that I do what I profess to believe.
