My heart exults in the Lord, my savior.-- 1 Samuel 2:(see 1)
Mass readings:1 Samuel 1:9-20 / Mark 1:21-28
Today's Gospel states that Jesus' fame spread everywhere. For the apostles, this must have been pretty exciting stuff! I imagine they were, at times, like my 13-year-old daughter who's enamored by the stars that she sees on TV or like me in my own youth when I was completely gaga over an up-and-coming rock star named Elton John!
Of course fame is neither something Jesus sought nor is it worthy of His true nature. Fame is for idols and Jesus was trying to show the people something so much more worthwhile: the glory of His Father's kingdom. The world will always have its idols but they can never compare to Jesus Christ who is the ''real deal'' and whose truth endures in season and out of season.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for being the way, the truth and the life in our world.
