Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice!-- Psalm 96:11
Mass readings:1 John 2:12-17 / Luke 2:36-40
What motivates us to do the things we do? Sometimes it seems that these days many people refuse to act unless they're convinced they will be quickly rewarded in some way. The proverbial ''carrot'' better come soon or they're not budging. Anna, we're told in today's Gospel, worshipped, fasted, and prayed for many years, but I suspect she foresaw nothing in return. Yet, because of her faithfulness she was granted the privilege of being there when Jesus was presented in the Temple.
We must ask ourselves: Why do I act and speak as I do? Do I expect some reward here and now (or very soon!) or do I do them simply because they are the right things to do?
Prayer: Lord, help me to do what's right because it's the right thing to do.
