The Lord has made known his salvation.--Psalm 98:2

Mass readings: Romans 1:1-7 / Luke 11:29-32

Prove It!

I like the television specials that are on occasionally that explain how magic tricks are done. They reveal secrets to such standards as making the magician's lovely young assistant disappear in a box or knowing which card an audience member has chosen from the deck. Knowing the secret doesn't ruin the trick, it makes a viewer better appreciate a magician's skills at sleight of hand, misdirection or mechanical ingenuity.

In today's Gospel, the people demand ''a sign'' from Jesus to prove -- beyond any doubt -- that His claims are true. But faith in Christ isn't about falling for some ''magic trick'' that someone smarter can figure out. And it isn't knowing with complete understanding. Using the gift of faith is believing without fully knowing.

Prayer: I do believe, Lord. Help my unbelief.
