What I Did on Assumption Day

The dogma of Mary's Assumption is doubly meaningful: It honors the Blessed Mother, who carried our Savior in her womb, and it encourages the rest of us, because we have been promised that we will also be glorified and raised. Today the human body is exploited in so many sinful ways. This feast underscores the true glory and beauty of the human person. It reminds me that my body and soul cannot be enemies, because both are destined to bear Christ on earth and dwell with Him forever.

The feast is special to me for an additional reason: Many years ago, on this day when the Church recalls that Mary was assumed, body and soul, into heaven, I was welcomed, body and soul, by Baptism, into the Catholic Church.

Prayer: Father in heaven, I am Yours, body and soul.
