I shall live in the house of the Lord all the daysof my life. --Psalm 23:6
Mass readings: Isaiah 25:6-10 / Matthew 15:29-37
Today's readings tell us that when God hears our cry, He wipes away our tears; and when He wants to feed the hungry, there is plenty. God intervenes in human history for a specific purpose. A good example is St. Francis Xavier (1506-1552). He preached the Good News, healed the afflicted and baptized thousands of people in India.
It was while young Francis was climbing the ladder of academic success in Paris that St. Ignatius Loyola challenged him with a quote from Christ in the Gospels: ''What profit is there for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life?'' Francis turned this question into a quest that took him through missionary journeys that have few parallels in history. His burning love and zeal for God and the world is palpable even today for anyone who visits his mortal remains preserved here in India.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, come into my life today.
